In spite of the clubs reputation for debauched antics of the highest order, we do also take part in some competitive skiing...although using the term in its loosest sense, as most meetings are nothing more than an opportunity to get pissed somewhere slightly more interesting than Gunnies!

TRAINING

We throw on weekly trips to some of the best dry slope pistes in Europe, including the famous resorts of Val de Birmingham, so in or out of season Brumski keep on riding.

Training is open to everyone of all standards and is usually just an excuse for a weekly get together. It takes place every Wednesday afternoon where we venture to the Ackers Ski Slope about 15minutes away. Buses leave from North Car Park and there is also a Selly Oak pickup. Contact Francis 07732 784425 or Logs 07709 346709 to get involved.

No problems about equipment, you can hire at the slope. Just wear long sleeves and bring gloves and socks. The rest is sweet.

RACING

In recent years our relaxed approach to training has done us well with victories at regional and national level on both skis and boards.

Last year we managed a great turn out of 11 drinking teams in total; 5 mixed ski, 3 chicks and 3 board teams, and so between us consumed a considerable amount of Frosty Jacks. The levels vary offering something for everyone, we’re aiming to keep similar numbers this year but simply the more of you guys that are interested the more teams we can take.

The majority of the racing is structured as team paralell events, this is just a ‘relay race’. Teams of 5 skiers/ 4 boarders compete against teams from other unis (and polys). Races take place in the afternoon of a Saturday or Sunday and are always followed with reputable socials. Outrageous fancy dress is usually the key to thrashing other unis and will be keenly used in our fight for victory in 2006/07!

There are 2 slightly more high profile drinking weekends through the season. The first is the British University Championships (BUDS) which is in early November and held on a freezing hillside in Scotland. There is a festival atmosphere with music acts, club nights and the infamous Racers Ball, with the beer flowing all weekend for one of the years' biggest parties. The second is a weekend in Sheffield for the English Championships where an equal amount of notorious Brumski mayhem is guaranteed.

This years 4 regional races are at 2 locations, Stoke and Ackers dry slope, however at the time of going to print these race dates are unknown... keep cheking the race team forum for further updates!
All racers must be registered with the AU but it comes with the bonus of physiotherapy support which, as anyone who has enjoyed eating dendix before will know, can come in use.

Get more info from the Underground 1 – 2 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays and keep updated on the website

Brumski racing is unofficially sponsored by Frosty Jack's Cider, make the sponsorship official you bastards!
